On March 17th, 2006 at 10:30 PM we gave birth to N912PW – AirBorne’s first Special Light Sport Aircraft. Peter Dessart of Oakland, CA is the proud owner of N912PW. The morning after N912PW received its airworthiness certificate Peter received his Sport Pilot endorsement. The next day he flew his new airplane from Corning, CA to Oakland International Airport, which is a Class C airport. His is the first weight-shift control sport aircraft to operate out of Oakland, to the delight of the tower controllers. Dan Johnson of www.byDanJohnson.com got the first “scoop.” AirBorne will release their official news release this week so you will hear more about this important milestone for both AirBorne and Sport Pilot. I want to thank the following individuals for their help in this achievement: - Team AirBorne (AirBorne Australia and Precision Windsports working together)
- Brian and Carol Carpenter of Rainbow Aviation (the DAR team who prepared and executed the airworthiness inspection)
- Edsel Ford of the FAA’s Light Sport Branch (AFS-610) who worked hand in hand with Brian, Carol, and myself to get all the paperwork right
- Neal Snowden of Aerospace Reports who helped us navigate the S-LSA registration maze and kept us from running aground
- Peter Dessart – the brave customer willing to accept the pain and risk that goes with being at the “bleeding edge” of the Light Sport movement.
Speaking of S-LSA we have a brand new Red XT-912 IN STOCK and ready for immediate delivery. Precision Windsports will take of the hassle of registering it as either an E-LSA or S-LSA. Our other stock trike is an Outback with AirBorne’s new Cruze wing. If this is your aircraft of choice we can register it as an E-LSA for you. For more information on either of these gorgeous trikes click here. If you are interested in getting an S-LSA XT-912 call us. We are uniquely qualified to get you into Sport Pilot and your own Special Light Sport Aircraft. If you are planning to be at Sun ‘N Fun please stop by to say “hi.” Sun ‘N Fun is our sport’s official celebration of the end of winter and the beginning of the flying season. Come and celebrate with us. Fly Safe, Fly Smart, Fly AirBorneJ Cheers, Terri | Brian & Carol Carpenter of Rainbow Aviation, Peter Dessart (owner), and yours truly of Precision Windsports
