Articles
The GA instructor community is focused on developing transportation pilots.  But most folks looking to get into aviation are drawn to it by the promised "fun" factor.  This article, published in EAA's Mentor Magazine Jan 08 edition contrasts the difference between transportation training and fun training.  Click here to read.
Interested in becoming a LSA DAR?  Find out how I did it by clicking here or getting a copy of Ultraflight Magazine, Jan 08 edition.
The AirBorne factory is located in the suburbs of Newcastle.  This slide show depicts one of the worst storms to hit that part of Australia in 100 years.  Fortunately the factory suffered no damage and the loss of property for those working there was minimal.  You will need PowerPoint to view this 2MB file.
Check out this feature article in the February 2006 issue of EAA's SportPilot magazine.  It covers our Dec 05 trip to AirBorne's factory in Redhead, Australia.  Find out how AirBorne trikes are made and what makes them so great.
Feature article in the December 2005 issue of Ultralight Flying Magazine.  Click on the underlined link to the left to see the article for yourself.
This was the feature article in the Sun 'N Fun edition of EAA's SportPilot, April 2005 edition.  In it our 4 month ultralighting adventure to the Northwest is documented with in text and pictures.  It was the trip of a lifetime.
On 24 May 2004 a trike pilot flew over the summit of Mt. Everest.  This link will take you to their story.
On April 19, 2005 Terri Sipantzi of Precision Windsports became the first civilian certified weight-shift, sport-pilot, certified flight instructor (SP-CFI).  Aero News Network documents this historic event.

Weather Related:
This website is dedicated to ultralight flying and is really a collection of weather sites.  Go to this site and familiarize yourself with what is available then pick your favorite sites.
This is the FAA weather site and is the one we use most often.

Ultralight Associations:We are members of all the associations below.  These organizations provide many resources to ultralight and light sport pilots as well as acting as our representatives to the FAA and Congress.  Support them -- they are supporting you.
United States Ultralight Association
Experimental Aircraft Association
Airplane Owners' and Pilots' Association.  While this is really a GA organization they are strong proponents of all flying and have a powerful voice with the FAA and Congress.  They have done more to maintain the availability of airports than anyone else (in our opinion) and support Sport Pilot.
As many of you know 121.5 is the frequency we monitor to pick up on aircraft in distress or to notify others of something important.  121five.com has cleverly adopted this as their name and created a website dedicated to distributing information of interest to light sport and general aviation pilots of every strip.  Check it out.
Aviation Information
Aircraft Supplies:
Lockwood Aviation has been supporting ultralighters for years.  They are the country's leading Rotax experts.  This is where we go for all of Rotax needs.
Probably one of the largest aircraft part supply company's in the country.  We routinely go to Spruce for spare bolts and related parts.
Sporty's has been supplying pilot accessories for decades.  This is where we go for general pilot related accessories, flight charts, training aids, etc.
Virginia Ultralight Flying Clubs
Lynchburg, VA
Amherst, VA.  Buffalo Ridge isn't really a club but in many ways has a club like atmosphere and is a good place to get trike training if you schedule only allows you to squeeze in an hour here or there.
